go play in the rain

No rain here - but I had taken this picture of Jessica a few weeks ago and forgot about it until I was burning a cd to get the pictures off my camera card. What is it about a child in a rain coat? That image makes me remember how fun it was to be a kid. I mean - how many adults truly love playing in the rain? I know many people find rainy days kindof depressing, but I just find the rain to be so refreshing and renewing. Things look brighter after a good rain, and it smells so good! I remember when I was first dating Tom. I remember this one afternoon when it was raining cats and dogs...I, for some reason, decided to go outside and play in the rain for a few minutes. I didn't care that my hair was drenched or that my mascara was making it's way to my chin (and beyond!). It felt good. For those brief moments - I was so carefree. Especially in comparison to the stresses of everyday life. Struggling to support myself on some measly retail wages and living halfway across the country - away from the rest of my friends and family ...now THAT was depressing! LOL But playing in the rain...that felt wonderful. I will NEVER forget that feeling. I can't remember if I came down with pneumonia as my mother would've surely warned me as a kid. I think Tom thought I was nuts...doing cartwheels in the parking lot of my apartment complex. LOL All thoughts of a long-term relationship were probably somewhat stunted that afternoon. Not sure if I can still do a cartwheel. In fact, I don't know that I've done one since that afternoon in the rain, but the next time it rains I just may have to grab my girls and go have some fun in the rain.

I too, needed this story this morning. I LOVE the rain. In fact, my kids were playing in the rain just a couple of months ago and I can still feel the pure JOY they had dancing around like monkeys with the raindrops falling on their heads. I have pictures -- I think you may have just inspired me to work on a layout! Thanks Cami! -- Rita
